Arm twisting by Kerala Film Exhibitors Federation continue - Bans a theater

This is what Crown Cinema, Calicut posted in their Facebook page

Sorry to announce that we have to stop the screening of RAJA RANI due to trouble from industry sources... So The Conjuring and Lunch Box get more screen time..

Well.. Last year the Kerala Film Exhibitors Federation, of which we WERE a member, called for indefinite closure of Cinemas protesting Govt.Policies. Being a member of the body, we had decided to stick to the closure cos the demand of KFEF with the Govt was genuine. But they kept changing the date of the closure to favour the interests of certain parties. And then one fine day they announced the closure from 2nd Nov 2012. That we had committed to Sony Pictures to screen SKYFALL from Nov 1st 2012, the last Bond movie, we, along with other Cinemas in Kochi, requested the body to change the date again. They dint agree. So we were forced to stick to our commitment and stay away from the strike. We resigned the membership from the body too. But ever since, the KFEF has placed an UNWRITTEN embargo on us - that if we screen any Malayalam or Tamil movie, none of the theatres in malabar will screen it. We managed to screen some movies like Neram & Nee Ko Na Cha. But most distributors were forced to keep away from us. Now the distributors of Raja Rani showed the guts to supply the movie to us. But the Honchos of the KFEF arm twisted them and threatened them with dire consequences. So, to ensure that the distributor does not suffer losses cos of our screening the film, we decided to stop screening. Its a Mad Mad Mad World!!!

Raja Rani : Exclusive Movie Review

Raja Rani : Exclusive Movie Review

Written & Direction by Atlee Kumar

Produced by A R Murugadoss/S.Shanmugam

Music by G. V. Prakash Kumar

Stars: Arya,Nayantara, Santhanam, Jai, Nazriya Nazim, Sathyaraj, Sathyan & Misha Ghoshal

Movie Review by Sree Prasad Nair

Theater – Eldorado Cinemas, Abu Dhabi, UAE 27/09/2013 – 1.00am Occupancy – 100% Sold Out (Surprise)

Raja Rani is the debut film of director Atlee Kumar. The story of the film is also written by himself. The director previously worked as assistant director to Shankar in Enthiran. Raja Rani is produced by Hit Director/Producer A.R.Murugadoss in association with Foxstar Studios. Raja Rani is a full fledge Nayantara film after 3 years. The film also stars Arya, Santhanam, Jai, Nazriya Nazim, Sathyaraj, Sathyan & Misha Ghoshal.

Story

Raja Rani is the story of a newly married couple, Arya & Nayantara who are like Tom and Jerry. Raja Rani is the story of Arya & Nayantara before and after their wedding. The film is about the problems and ego clashes between them. The whole film is about their relationship and relationship with their past. Yes the film also stars Jai & Nazriya in meaty roles. What's their role in the film? Sorry... No Spoilers...!!! For that you should watch Raja Rani, because....

Positives

Atlee Kumar's story may sound predictable, but the film is a good family entertainer. Not only for the families, the film's story can relate to the every youngsters story. Atlee's story is really good and

filled with a lot of emotions portrayed. His direction is first rate. Infact can't believe that Raja Rani is his debut film as director. He added many heart touching scenes in the film which are beautifully executed. Over Raja Rani is a great debut for writer/director Atlee Kumar.

Of the cast, it's indeed difficult to say who'd walk away with all the appreciation at the conclusion of the show. Nayantara made an excellent comeback as Regina. Not only does she look like a woman who is the cynosure of two men, but also emotes her part with amazing grace. Her role is a reflection of what Nayantara can handle in real life. Loads of attitude, a sensitive and soft-hearted girl who can weep, if affected. Easily one of her finest performance, also one of the top performance by a female star in Tamil - 2013.

Arya is excellent as John. You will see a completely different Arya in Raja Rani. He handles the complex part with remarkable ease. His emotional scenes are a revelation. His sequences in the second half of the film prove that the actor is capable of so much more than good looks and action.

Jai underplays his part well. He was very convincing as innocent customer care representative. He was superb in the first half. However, the length of the role doesn't give him much scope to display histrionics.

Nazriya Nazim comes up with a spirited performance again after Neram. The pretty lass is only getting better with every film. Apart from acting, her cuteness and innocent face are an additional benefit for her to sustain in this industry. Not to forget, Nazriya is just 17 years old!

Satyaraj as Nayantara's father is first rate. So is Sathyan as Jai's friend. Misha Ghoshal's role as Nayantara's friend is limited, but her acting is impressive. The pretty actress played the role of Nayantara's college friend is very good.

Another plus point of the film is.... yes you guessed it right! Santhanam!!! Santhanam is once again, without any surrpise outstanding in the film. It's a treat to watch him on screen with his witty one liners and terrific coming timing. Infact in many scenes, especially in the second half Arya is sidelined the moment Santhanam arrives on screen. Watch out for his emotional advice to Nayantara at the climax. A Brilliant actor!

Music by G.V.Prakash is very good. Heyy Babyy & Angnyaade are already chartbusters. Cinematography by George. C. Williams is eye catching. Editing by Anthony L. Ruben is perfect. Special mention to the costume designers of the film, Chaitanya rao & Deepali.

Negatives

The last 15 minutes of first half & the last 10 minutes of the second half, infact the climax will meet with mixed reactions from the audience. Nayantara overacts a bit in the last portions of the first half. Jai's story is hard to digest. Film drags hugely in the second half, very slow paced at some portions in the second half. Some of the important portions in the second half is fast paced. Second half could have been much better!

Overall Raja Rani is a feel good film! A clean family entertainer with many heart-warming scenes, brilliant performances from the lead cast, excellent comedy from Santhanam & some good music. Box Office Perspective Raja Rani is a clean winner!

P:S: A Clean Family Entertainer

Verdict - Introduce This "Raja Rani" To Your family.

Rating - 3.25/5! Super Hit!!!

Phata Poster Nikhla Hero : Exclusive Movie Review

PHATA POSTER NIKHLA HERO : Exclusive Movie Review

Written & Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi

Produced by Ramesh Taurani/ Jay Shewakramani

Music by Pritam

Stars: Shahid Kapoor, Ileana D'Cruz, Padmini Kolhapure, Darshan Jariwala, & Sanjay Mishra

Movie Review by Sree Prasad Nair

Theater – Grand Al Mariah Cinemas, Abu Dhabi, UAE 19/09/2013 – 10.00pm Occupancy – 100% Housefull

Director Rajkumar Santoshi is known for directing films like Ghayal, Damini, Pukar, The Legend of Bhagat Singh & Khakee. Most of his films were successful due to critics appreciation and superb positive mouth publicity. Mr.Santhoshi also directed Andaz Apna Apna with SalmanKhan & Aamir Khan which emerged as a cult in Hindi film history. His last film, Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani with Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif emerged as one of the biggest hits of 2009. And this time he is teaming up with Shahid Kapoor in Phata Poster Nikhla Hero.

Phata Poster Nikhla Hero is an acid test for Shahid Kapoor. The actor is going through a bad phase with 7 back to back flops in his last 3 years. All eyes are on Shahid Kapoor this time. Will he bounce back with Phata Poster Nikhla Hero? Phata Poster Nikhla Hero also stars Ileana D'Cruz, Padmini Kolhapure, Darshan Jariwala, Darshan Jariwala, Sanjay Mishra & Salman Khan in a cameo. Phata Poster Nikhla Hero is a Tips film. The makers had already tasted success in 2013 with Race 2 & Ramaiya Vastavaiya.

Story

Phata Poster Nikhla Hero is the story of Vishwas Rao played by Shahid Kapoor, actually wants to be an actor, but circumstances compel him to become a fake cop. Kaajal played by Ileana D’Cruz is a social worker. She is the one that unwittingly drags Rao into pretending to be a real cop. His mother played by Savitri wants him to become a cop. And because of his promise to his mother forces him to go on pretending that he is a real cop.

Let me start with the positives of the film...

Positives

Finally Shahid Kapoor is back with a bang! A fantastic performance. Action, Comedy, Dance, It's a Shahid Kapoor show all the way. He is effortlessly charming and carries the comic scenes very very well. He is exceptional in emotional scenes and in comedy scenes he tickles your funny bone without making faces. The role was very challenging for him and it was amazing to see how he reinvents himself as a 'complete actor' in this film. Undoubtedly Shahid Kapoor's career best performance. Yes It's just the beginning of his second innings!

Illeana D'Cruz enacts her part efficiently. Pretty looking and photogenic & manages to make her presence felt. Good to see Padmini Kolhapure on screen after a long time and her acting is very good. She scores in both emotional & funny scenes. Darshan Jariwala, Zakir Hussain, Sanjay Mishra & Saurabh Shukla, all are brilliant & succeeded in providing maximum entertainment. Infact they add tremendous weight to the film. Watch out for Sanjay Mishra's oneliners.

Another plus point of the film is the 'outstanding 1 min cameo by superstar Salman Khan'. There is one scene when Salman's driver " Bhai Police hamara peecha kar rahe hain ". And Salman " Kyaaaa... Arre Mein So Raha Tha... Car Kab Chalayi Maine? Ab Kyun Peecha Kar Rahe Hain"! Nice to know that Salman can laugh at himself. His cameo brings the house down.

Music by Pritam is rocking. Tu Mere Agal Bagal Hai & Main Rang Sharbaton Ka are already chartbusters and the placement of these songs in the film are perfect. Cinematography by Ravi Yadav is excellent, so is Steven Bernard's editing.

Raj Kumar Santoshi's proves the naysayers wrong with his first rate direction. Also special mention must be given to him for his witty dialogues & entertaining script. Many notable funny scenes are there within the first half and all scenes were superbly directed by Mr.Santoshi

Negatives

Not much negatives about the film. Nargis Fakhri spoiled the fun with her irritating item song in the second half. Poor dance & horrible expressions! Totally Miscasted! Not at all convincing as item girl. Also back to back songs within the first 10 mins of second half were not needed. Mukesh Tiwari acting is just average. Shahid Kapoor overacts a bit (his first meeting with Darshan Jariwala) Climax of the film is almost a 'copy-paste' from Mr.Santoshi's last film Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani.

Overall Phata Poster Nikhla Hero is a sure shot winner from Raj Kumar Santoshi with career best performance from Shahid Kapoor, great music and good acting from the support cast as pluspoints. At the box office the film is all set to open big thanks to great music & excellent promotion by the makers. One thing is sure, Phata Poster Nikhla Hero will be the biggest Shahid Kapoor opener at the box office. An opening day numbers of 10-13cr with a weekend number of 40cr+ is on the cards and will be steady on the weekdays too. A two open weeks till Besharam (on Oct 2nd) will be bountiful for the makers. It's raining hits in Bollywood. Shuddh Desi Romance, Grand Masti & now a hat-trick with Phata Poster Nikhla Hero!

P:S:It's Just The Beginning Of Shahid Kapoor's Second Innings.., Rambo Rajkumar to follow!

Verdict - PHATA POSTER NIKHLA BOX OFFICE HERO. Career Best Performance of Shahid Kapoor!

Rating - 3.5/5!

Sure Shot Super Hit !!!

Krrish 3 - Music Review - Was there even a Music Director ??

Krrish 3 - Music Review

Track List

'Krrish 3' is one of the most awaited Hindi film of the year. Sequel to 'Koi Mil Gaya' & 'Krrish', a Hrithik release after 2.5 years, one of the biggest budgeted Indian film, a Super Hero movie, 1.5years of Post production etc made this film red hot among people and in market. so each and every announcement regarding the movie was eagerly awaited. The music of 'Krrish 3' has been finally released, lets have a look if it really matches the immense hype or not.

1. "Krrish Krrish (Title Track)"

I don't think there has been any title track of a Hindi movie that sounded as bad as this one, at least in the recent past. A title track should be the one that sets the album and film on pace, especially a huge film like 'Krrish 3' - considering that this one is a total disaster of a song. There's nothing positive to talk about in this song.

2. "Raghupati Raghav"

This is my pick of the album, which I never even thought in my wildest dream thought would be the case after seeing the song video promo. The only thing I liked in the video was Hrithik's cool dance moves (which won't be 'jaw dropping' for those who frequent Telugu movies). The song has been set/shot as a party number without any energy at all. The song even after repeated hearings fails to bowl you over. But considering the rest of the songs in the album, this definitely is my pick.

3. "Dil Tu Hi Bataa"

Feels like a romantic duet, but fails to raise any kind of emotion in listeners. The orchestration is not just bad, but plain irritating, absolutely not suiting the mood of the song. Even Alsiha Chinai's voice couldn't save this song.

4. "You Are My Love"

This is one song that could turn out to be a Hit once the video is out. Its a quirky romantic track sung nicely by Mohith. As a song its better than the others, waiting to see the Video. Still I don't understand the need of such a song in this kind of a film. Anyway would like to give the benefit of the doubt to this song.

5. "God Allah Aur Bhagwan"

A song that describes 'Krrish ('the super hero'). Sounds much like kids stuff, an anthem like what 'Chota Bheem' or similar cartoon characters have. Nothing much for the mass audience.

The major problem with the songs are the orchestration, nothing seems to suit the mood or lyrics of the movie. Such a big budgeted, heavily hyped movie should have at least one 'Blockbuster' track, leave BB there is not even one 'Hit' material in this entire album. I seriously doubt whether Mr.Rakesh Roshan or Hrithik listened to the song while composing. (or maybe these are exactly the songs they wanted)

Rajesh Roshan have always given blockbuster tracks, but unfortunately its the extreme opposite this time, a shockingly disappointing album. When 'RRR' was the first video released would have predicted the quality of others too, coz usually they release the best track first.

The makers weren't serious about the movie it seems, the entire album feels like has been made for a Kids animation movie. There is nothing either for the masses or classes. May be that's they way they wanted it. With visuals don't know if my opinion is gonna change or not but as an audio album its quite disappointing.

Arrambam - Exclusive Music Review

 Arrambam - Music Review

Any Yuvan Shankar Raja musical is waited with bated breaths & if its for an Ajith film the hype even increases. Ajith-Yuvan combo have always given hits, Yuvan is also on a roll with super mega success of Biriyani, so lets see how this one turned out.

 Track List

 1. Adada Arambame

Feels like the Intro/opening song for Ajith. Its a festive mood song. It has got that zip and energy that should be associated with such songs. Shankar Mahadevan's voice should match like anything with Ajith. This is the song in the album that's gonna be an instant/first hit. With visuals the impact of the song is surely gonna grow

3.25/5

 2. Stylish Tamizhachi

Song begins in super style with English rap portions that are simply rocking. It makes one feel that if we are listening an 'English' track for real. The energy gets transferred to the remaining portions of the song too. Its an out and out party blast track, this one is my favorite pick of the album, even though didn't like much after first listening. Singing, Instrumentation, lyrics, rap everything is Kick-Ass

3.5/5

3. Melala Vedikuthu

A typical friendship song, might be picturised on Ajith-Arya-Nayanthara. This is the Holi song in the film.. Loved the lyrics of the song, 'messages infused' one. A particular portion in the music is also quite infectious. An above average song even after multiple listening, may be the video could change the opinion.

2.75/5

4. Hare Rama

Te song begins with high energy, but it soon fizzles out. The instrumentation is once again good but wish if the punch was carried throughout the song. The song has '50 Cent: Candy shop' inspirations here and there I think. Singing is energetic and apt for the song

2.75/5

5.  En Fuse Pochu

Looks like a fun romantic duet picturised on Aarya & Taapses. Has got funky lyrics too. Didn't like the song too much. Considering the theme of the movie a song like this could also end up as speed breaker. The only song in the album that i didn't like. But its not completely bad, liked in bits and pieces, but as a complete song its not up to the mark.

2.25/5

Arrambam in total is a Good, different album but definitely not an instant hit. It lacks that one 'blockbuster track' which can sell the entire album and even the film. Its a complete youth/urban album, maybe specifically orchestrated to cater the theme of the movie. It takes atleast 2-3 listening before you start to get a liking towards the songs. Its everyone's cup of tea and there is very little for the masses.

But for those who like a bit of difference and are fans of Western songs, this one should definitely work for you. I seriously think that once videos are out the songs are gonna be liked even more.

So all in all Yuvan fails to meet the humungous expectations that everyone had for the album. If you have no expectations you might like the album very much, for others I recommend you wait till the video promos are out or listen to song promos multiple times before buying it.

Ezhamathe Varavu - Malayalam Movie Review

Ezhamathe Varavu - Malayalam Movie Review

 Director, Lyrics, Music by     Hariharan
Producer Bhavani
Written by     M. T. Vasudevan Nair
Cinematography     S. Kumar
Editing by     Bavan Sreekumar
Studio     Gayathri Cinemas Enterprises
Release date(s)     September 15, 2013
Country     India
Language     Malayalam

 Cast

    Indrajith as Gopinath
    Bhavana as Bhanu
    Vineeth as Prasad
    Kavitha as Mala
    Vinu Mohan
    Suresh Krishna
    Mamukkoya
    Kanchana
    K T C Abdullah

 Story

Gopinath is a rich aristocratic estate owner, whose main pass time is Hunting. Bhanu is his wife who is longing for love and affection. Prasad is an archaeologist, and also Bhanu's college mate. Mala is a tribal girl who introduces Prasad to the forest.  The incidents that happens between these 4 as a Tiger begins to hunt the villagers forms the major plot of 7A.

I am nobody to judge legends like Hariharan or MT Vasudevan Nair, so conisder this not as a review, but just comments of a layman after watching the movie.

7A is the remake of 'Oridathoru Shathru' [Hariharan-MT-Sukumaran-Venu Nagavally] which in fact never got released. The film reportedly got tons of positive reviews back then when a preview show was conducted & the reason behind the title 'A creature coming very 7 years to kill/eat 7 girls', got me very excited about the movie, but unfortunately it was very much disappointing.

The film is lengthy, but it looks even lengthier thanks to the snail pace in which the film movies. Nothing much happens in the movie in most of its run time. The first half was better which sets up everything nicely for what could have been an exciting 2nd half with a brilliant climax. But the post intraval portions drags even more. could hear people murmuring and few even booing during the flash back portions.

Most of the characters seems under written. The script is very loose and drags in most of the part. MT is well known for his hard hitting dialogues, this time that too fails. The film is predictable in every corner. All the build up to the 'Tiger' and the myth of the creature fizzles in the end, by raising expectations through out the movie

The posters were full of Indrajith's face, but he gets an extended cameo/supporting type of role. Indrajith has given an honest performance, but his character is horribly underdeveloped. Viewer never really feels anything towards 'Gopalan'. Same is the case with ohter character in the movie.  Its Vineeth who is there through in the movie & his role is what he has been known for over the years, nothing exceptional, he had a cake walk. Bhavana's character was a bit confusing one, but she did try to give a good performance. Mammookoya, debutant Kavitha did their roles well.

Camera work was excellent, In fact the locales were so breath taking that it did half the job, but shooting like this in the forest in commendable. Songs are just speed breakers in an already dragging movie. Resul Pookutty once again gave his best in Sound department. Editing should have been a lot crispier, the movie deserved a run time of 2hrs or there abouts.

Watch the film for some nice visuals, a film with out mass/crass elements and because its a film by the 2 legends.

Rating: 2.25/5

Verdict: Average

Last Word: Disappointed !!!

North 24 Kaatham - Malayalam Movie Review

 Writer, Director: Anil Radhakrishnan Menon
Produced by: E 4 Eentertainment
DOP: Jayesh Nair
Music: GovindMenon
Editor: Dilip Dennies
Costumes: Sameera Saneesh
Make up: Ranjith Ambadi

CAST

    Fahadh Faasil as Harikrishnan
    Swati Reddy as Narayani
    Nedumudi Venu as Gopalan
  Premgi Amaren as Vyomkesh [Cameo]
Chemban Vinod
    Sreenath Bhasi
    Srinda Ashab
    Prigi Abigail Benger
    Deepak Nathan

 Story

'North 24 Katham' [1 katham = 16 KMs] narrates the story of a journey by 3 strangers [Harikrishnan (Fahad Fazil), Gopalan (Nedumudi Venu), and Narayani (Swati Reddy)] through the heartlands of Kerala, on a 'Harthal' day & the incidents that takes place on course. Harikrishnan is an IT professional. Gopalan is a yesteryear Marxist & Narayani a social worker.
It also the journey of Hari in which he breaks the shell which he himself created around him and finally gets a feel of the life & word out there.

People of Kerala celebrates Harthal,Strike,Bandh etc like festivals & Holidays. Roads will be empty, shops will be shut and most remain in their home. Those who can't avoid traveling in such days will have to go through Hell before reaching destination. The film also throws light into the condition, but in a lighthearted manner.

The story line is similar to Steve Martin starrer Planes, Trains & Automobiles, which film like Anbe sivam, Due Date have also used. But the Director who is also the writer have adapted the screenplay according to our conditions and discuss some socially relevant issues.

N24K is a nice, slow, breezy entertainer which begins as a typical New-Gen film, but later changes its track. The main highlight of the film is the performances of the lead cast. Nedumudi Menu was excellent as Gopalettan, especially in the climax portions. Fahadh Faasil once again has given a superlative performance as the OCD IT professional. Swati Reddy also was good. All the supporting cast were very efficient. Premgi Amaren who comes in a cameo, with his typical punchline, wins claps. Liked the title card which very much explains the entire film in photo cards.

The film is slow for the liking of Masses. Its not everyone's cup of tea. Those who prefers crass/mass formula films may stay away from this. Even though it runs just over 2hours, it drags here and there. There is no spoon feeding in n24k which might leave viewers with some unanswered questions once the film get over, even I would have preferred some sort of clarifications on some points. Also the pre-climax portions seemed bit far stretched.

Direction was very good, a confident debut by Anil. Camera work was excellent, captured the heart of Kerala with al its grandeur. Music & BG were very good too. Editing could have been a bit sharper.

SO all in all, its a different entertainer that may not be of every body's liking. As far I am concerned, I liked it, think you should check it out too.

Verdict - Good

Rating 3.25/5

Sringaravelan - Malayalam Movie Review

 Sringaravelan - Malayalam Movie Review

 Directed By : Jos Thomaas
Produced by Jaison Elamgulam
Script By : Udayakrishna- Sibi K Thomas
Music by: Berny Ignatious, Nadirsha
Lyrics by  Rafeeq Ahmed
Cinematographer Shaji
Banner: RJ Creations
Distributed by Manjunatha & RJ Release [Kerala]

 Cast

 Dileep - Kannan
Vedhika - Radha
Lal - Yesu
Shammi Thilakan - Ookkan Tintu
Babu Nambootiri  - Ayyappanasan
Shajon
Baburaj
Joy Mathew
Chembil Asokan
Sreedevi Unni

Story

Sringaravelan tells the story of Kannan, whose sole ambition in life is to make some quick bucks. His father, Ayyappanasan who is a weaver by profession wants his son to excel in the field of clothes & fashion. Rada is Kannan's love interest and Yesu, his partner in crime. What all troubles these various characters get into and how they solve all of them in the end forms the rest of the story.

Any Dileep movie is associated with lots of expectations, same was the case with Sringaravelan. Especially when coming from the team that gave you Malayalam cinemas 2nd biggest hit ever, Dileep - Jose Thomas - Sibi  Thomas - Baburaj.. But the film kind of failed to meet that expectations.

The biggest problem with the movie is its length. The film runs close to 3hours and is lower in humor content compared to previous Dileep hits. Dileep-Lal-Shajon trio raises laughter whenever they appear on screen, like the scene in which Lal enters as an Astrologer, which brings the house down. But that doesn't happen in the entire movie. SV turns into a romantic-drama track once the heroine is introduced. The romantic track didn't work out well like in Bodyguard or many other films. It should have been better had the writers sticked on more to the comedy genre. The tagline says 'Romantic fighter', but there is only one action block in the movie which only comes in the climax. Like most Dileep mass entertainers, this one too have lots of double meaning dialogues.

Despite these flaws the film is neither a disappointment or it makes you cringe on your seats. It is a very much watchable entertainer, especially in this festive mood. Dileep's target audience, Ladies & Kids, who have received even craps with open arms before will sure lap up this one too.

Dileep have once again given a good clean performance, but his contribution to humor is fewer this time. Lal has given a complete knock-out performance, wish his character was lengthier, it could have taken the movie to greater heights. Shajon who had a great chemistry with Dileep, bit of disappoints this time, Suraj would have been a better option. Vedhika has given avery good performance, getting the emotions and lip sync right. She has a significant role too, comparing the roles heroines gets in usual mass films. Only -ve was her nake up, felt was bit over the top, could have looked prettier even without make up, like she proved in Paradesi.

Directionm camera were good. Songs are complete disappointment, not even a single hummable track. BG was okay, felt bit loud at times. Editing could have been crispier, needs a trimming of 10-15mins.

Sringaravelan is a typical festival entertainer aimed at masses. Don't go with huge expectations (like I did) and chances are that you might enjoy this ride, the crowd response shows that.

Verdict: Above average

Rating: 2.75/5

Box Office: Should be a HIT

Last word: TIME PASS 'Dileeptainer'

    Thesni Khan
    Smitha Samuel
    Mini Arun

Story

Daivathinte Swantham Cleetus tells the story of  a 'Cleetus' goonda, who accidently gets selected to play the role of 'Jesus Christ' in a light and sound show to be played during festivities. What happens to 'Cleetus' and those surrounding him when the events in the life os 'Jesus' starts repeating in life of 'Cleetus' too.

DSC is directed by Debutant G.Marthandan who has 17 years of experience working as AD for various directors. The movie is produced by Faizal Lathif, a member of  All Kerala Mammootty Fans Association.

The film which was promoted as Comedy-Mass entertainer fails to justify both genres. The first half is intersting thanks to the unique characterization of Mammootty, something similar to the role in 'Kanalkattu'. But once the initial excitement is offer the film offers nothing much, even for the fans.absolutely nothing much happens in the second half. Whatever little suspense the writer created in the first half fizzles in the later half. The climax also is a big let down.

The film is named after the hero, but the character gets lost among the supporting cast often. Mammooty has scored in what ever opportunity that was presented to him by Benny. The job of the supporting cast is to provide comic relief, which they succeed to a small extent. All of them have done a good job. New comer Sanam Shetty has made a confident debut with almost perfect lip sync.

Direction was average at its best. Most of the 'attempted' comedy scenes fell flat thanks to the director (like first scene, Siddique's intro etc). Script fails considering the genre or rather publicized genre of the movie. Many of the Dialogues were mediocre too. The locales were very beautiful making the job of the Cinematographer simple, nothing exceptional unless to talk about. Songs are just average at its best. Editing is crisp and thanks to the editor for keeping the length under (or about) 2hr15mins. Background score was loud and bad.

The film is by no means boring. Considering the lack of any expectations, is not disappointing either. You can watch if there's nothing else to do. Fans can watch it for the different 'attempt' by Mammootty.

Overall its average at its best.

Verdict: Average

Rating : A generous 2.5/5

Box Office: Average

Akshay Kumar's Boss (2013) - Music Review - Paisa Vasoool !!!

Boss is the most awaited Akshay Kumar film of the year. After 2 average films fans of Akshay Kumar are hoping big time that 'Boss' delivers some punch. The film is the remake of Malayalam blockbuster 'Pokkiri Raja'. The initial signs that the films throw at us are positive - The trailer has been very well received, the 2 song promos that has been released have become a rage among people. The entire album came out yesterday, on Akshay's birthday . Now let's see if the album has delivered it or not

Song: BOSS
Caller Tune : sms BSS1 to 54646
Singer: MEET BROS ANJJAN FEAT. YO YO HONEY SINGH
Music Director: MEET BROS ANJJAN
Lyrics: KUMAAR

This is the title song, the first one to be released online. Even though it took a bit of time to grow on me, song was an instant hit with majority thanks to its catchy beat and funky lyrics. The choreography in the video was unique and interesting too. The music, especially the main punch note, is inspired from 'Candy Shop' by '50 Cents'. But it doesn't feel like a complete rip off - kudos to the composers. A perfect song for the mass and class audience.

3.75/5

Song: PARTY ALL NIGHT
Caller Tune : sms BSS11 to 54646
Singer: YO YO HONEY SINGH
Music: YO YO HONEY SINGH
Lyrics: SAHIL KAUSHAL (LILL GOLLU)

This was the second song promo to be released online. Unlike 'Boss' this one caught one the very first instant I heard it and has been playing it ever since. After 'Lungi Dance' another (solo) hit for Yo Yo Honey Singh. The song is a ultimate party number, and is for sure gonna blast the speakers of all music party's across the country. The song do sounds like a faster rappper version of 'Suno Gaour Se Duniya Walo'. But again its the unique Yo-Yo element that makes the song stand out

4/5

Song: HUM NA TODE
Caller Tune : sms BSS5 to 54646
Singer: VISHAL DADLANI
Music Director: P.A. DEEPAK
Lyrics: KUMAAR

Ever since I heard the news that Akshay Kumar has bought the rights for the song 'Appadi Podu' from Gilli [Tamil]  have been waiting to hear the Hindi version of it. Well, 'Hum Na Thode' is that song and eventhough it doesn't quite match to the original is a good one. They have not ruined the song. After 2 songs with 'western' flavour, this one is a pucca desi mass masala number. Vishal Dadlan's voice is a huge plus for the song. Once the video is out, this one also for sure is gonna be a chart buster. Hope that they have given credits to the original composer, Vidyasagar.

3.25/5

Song: PITAH SE HAI NAAM TERA
Caller Tune : sms BSS8 to 54646
Singer: SONU NIGAM, MEET BROS ANJJAN, ALAPS: SANJAY MISRA
Music Director: MEET BROS ANJJAN
Lyrics: KUMAAR

The first melody in the album. A soulful song in the heavenly voice of Sonu Nigam.Loved the song very much. Feels like a song in flashback, may be showing the relations between the brothers and their father.

3.5/5

Song: HAR KISI KO
Caller Tune : sms BSS19 to 54646
Singer: ARIJEET SINGH, NEETI MOHAN
Music Director: CHIRANTAN BHATT
Lyrics: MANOJ YADAV

The only romantic melody in the film, picturized on Shiv & Aditi. again a nice melody. But noting exceptional or out of the box here, but feels nice to listen.

2.75/5

Song: BOSS ENTRY THEME
Caller Tune : sms BSS17 to 54646
Singer: MEET BROS ANJJAN, SONU KAKKAR, KHUSHBOO GREWAL
Music Director: MEET BROS ANJJAN
Lyrics: KUMAAR

Since its an entry music the song has got more 'instruments' than 'vocals'. Not a pulsating of heart thumping one. The only average song in the entire album.

2.5/5

There is one additional track called 'Ganapathi Bappa Morya' in the album which is just a 'Ganesh' special version of 'Boss title song' on account of 'Ganesh Chaturthi' - 3.5/5

'Boss' is a full time mass masala paisa vasool album. Don't just go by the ratings, its a must buy. The more you hear the songs I am sure even the average songs are gona grow on you. 'Boss' is undoubtedly the best Hindi film Music album of the year after 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani'.

So with music alsodelivering big time, the film is destined to take the Box Office by storm, come October 16th

Final Rating :- 3.75/5

Verdict: - Paisa Vasool !!!
